Two social service professionals from Chicago, U.S.A. visited our centers for people with intellectual disabilities. In total, ten specialists came to Osaka from November 10th to 15th in 2013 through the Osaka-Chicago Social Services Exchange Program. Over the course of 5 days, They observed the corresponding centers suchthey visited sites providing support for people with disabilities, the elderly and the LGBT community. One of the visitors was a special education teacher and the other was a lawyer of a juvenile court. Our Executive Directors and staff explained our philosophy, then showed our daily therapeutic care activities. This was a very encouraging opportunity for our centers and our staff.

On October 5th and 6th in 2011, two specialists from Chicago, as part of a nine member group of the Osaka-Chicago Social Service Specialists Exchange Program, visited our centers for people with intellectual disabilities in Osaka. The members of the exchange have various areas of focus, including: child education, welfare for the disabled and welfare for the elderly. They observed the corresponding centers from October 3rd to 7th. One of the visitors to our centers is a program manager at a center for people with visual impairment. The other specialist is a clinical psychologist teaching at a university in Chicago and who shares the same approach as us regarding supporting people with intellectual disabilities. Especially, as a result of the exchange with the clinical psychologist, we agreed to continue to stay in contact and share our thoughts and findings. We were happy to meet people who share our approach and philosophy about this very important work from abroad.
